The Charlotte 49ers, who announced in August that they had received final approval to begin a football program in 2013, have announced the opponent for their inaugural football game in the 2013 season. Charlotte will host Campbell, Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013. "Each day, we get closer and closer to our first football season," said 49ers Director of Athletics Judy Rose. "Today, we have our first opponent in sight. We are thrilled to be able to get this first game scheduled and are excited to announce that it will be at home so our fans can celebrate what is sure to be an historic occasion."
The inaugural game will be played on-campus at the 49ers stadium, which is expected to break ground in May, 2011. The 49ers will return a visit to Campbell, Sept. 20, 2014.
In August the 49ers announced their first scheduled series, a home-and-home with Morehead State which will begin on the road in 2013 and return to Charlotte in 2014.
