    Charlotte Football Initiative (CFI) is formed. The grassroots group hopes to bring football to the 49ers.
  • December 2006
    Board of Trustees authorizes study of football.
  • March 2007
    Chancellor Dubois appoints Football Feasibility Committee, chaired by former Board of Trustees Chair Mac Everett.
  • February 15, 2008
    Football Feasibility Committee unanimously recommends addition of football
  • September 16, 2008
    "March to the Endzone" Pep Rally held by 49ers student body.
  • September 18, 2008
    Chancellor recommends addition of football to Board of Trustees.
  • November 13, 2008
    Board of Trustees passes recommendation without opposition.
  • December 9, 2009
    DLR Group and Jenkins-Peer Architects presents initial renderings of football stadium.
  • December 11, 2009
    Board of Trustees unanimously approves funding plan.
  • February 12, 2010
    Board of Governors unanimously approves funding plan.
  • June/July 2010
    Legislature approves Capital Project bill.
  • August 2010
    Governor Bev Purdue signs non-appropriated Capital Project bill.
  • August 11, 2010
    "Done Deal" celebration at Student Union.

    49ers schedule first football series.

    49ers schedule inaugural home game vs. Campbell, August 31, 2013.

    49ers name Brad Lambert as first head coach of football.
  • April 28, 2011
    Over 3,000 fans celebrate Groundbreaking for the 49ers Football Stadium.
  • November 1, 2011
    49ers announce naming of McColl-Richardson Field for banking pioneer Hugh McColl and Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson.
  • February 1, 2012
    49ers sign first freshman class of 27 players.
  • April 11, 2012
    49ers hold walk-on tryouts.
  • May 4, 2012
    49ers announce they will join Conference USA in football in 2015 (all other sports in 2013-14). Move fast tracks 49ers to FBS level after initial two seasons as an FCS Independent.
  • July 25, 2012
    Head coach Brad Lambert unveils the 49ers white helmet design.
  • August 8, 2012
    Keys are officially turned over to the 49ers to take ownership of the football field house.
  • August 11, 2012
    Goalposts are installed at football stadium.
  • August 11, 2012
    In a surprise announcement, Dale Halton, who purchased naming rights to Field House and Chancellor Dubois, name Judy W. Rose Football Center for current longtime athletic director.
  • August 16, 2012
    The 49ers first team reports to campus. Holds first team meeting the following day.
  • August 23, 2012
    Installation of turf begins at the football stadium.
  • August 27, 2012
    First workout session for the 49ers football team on practice fields.
